The initial Key-note Lecture by Paul will be followed by 6 discussion sessions on these themes: The Murdoch Empire; Raymond Williams’ book Communications ; Local media – the future; TV Drama; News – Bias and ‘Balance’; Celebrity and Privacy. One session will include WEA training on use of web and social networks within learning/discussion circles.

2. PHILOSOPHY & POLITICS TODAY

Programme will include: Aung San Suu Kyi and Non-Violent Resistance; Direct democracy: 38 Degrees and Avaaz. Why Marx was right; Feminism – an up-date; Hobbes and JS Mill; Scientists struggling with Ethics; The role of Aesthetics, from garden gnomes to wind turbines; The Arab Spring; Cooperatives in 2020. One session will include WEA training on the use of web and social networks within learning/discussion circles.
